CARRIE LEE joined The Florida Bar in 2014 as Bar Counsel. Carrie’s interest in law began when she became field investigator for the Polk County Public Defender’s office at the age of eighteen. Carrie attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and during her law school career she assisted in the defense of one of the men charged in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing of the four little girls in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon graduation from law school in 2001, Carrie started her career at the Ninth Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office working in Osceola and Orange Counties. Carrie performed in all aspects of criminal defense including felony, misdemeanor and appeals. She also helped to create a project to provide immediate assistance for those arrested and incarcerated. In 2004, Carrie was transferred to the juvenile unit of the public defender’s office. For the next ten years, Carrie dedicated her career to representing children charged with delinquent acts. She also became the Director of the Juvenile Justice Center at Barry University School of Law providing training and technical assistance to the juvenile defenders to improve the quality of representation for children both in Florida and around the country. The Center was selected to receive a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation grant to implement systemic policy change in the delinquency courts around Florida. To continue to serve the public, Carrie joined The Florida Bar and has represented the organization at the investigative, trial, and appellate levels of processing complaints against attorneys that have violated The Rules Regulating The Bar.
